Enrico Borrelli, MD, FEBO works as retina specialist at San Raffaele Hospital (Milan, Italy). He graduated from Vita-Salute San Raffaele University (Milan, Italy) in 2013. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at Gabriele D’Annunzio University (Chieti, Italy) and his clinical research fellowship in medical retina and retinal imaging at Doheny Eye Institute, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA (Los Angeles, CA, USA).
His research interests include image analysis and translational research adopting retinal imaging to better understand different ocular disorders that include age-related macular degeneration (AMD), pachychoroid disease, and diabetic retinopathy. He has authored or co-authored over 180 articles in peer reviewed international journals (H-index=33). He has performed pioneering work in opening the field of color autofluorescence and in employing OCT angiography to detect changes in the choriocapillaris in AMD subjects. Additionally, his studies identified imaging biomarkers that may guide clinicians in the management of patients with macular disorders. His work has been recognized with several international awards and grants including the Global Ophthalmology Award Program (GOAP). He also holds patents related to his specialist field.
