Speaker Biography

Dr Taiji Sakamoto graduated from Kyushu University, Japan in 1985. He completed his residency and proceeded to attain fellowships in ophthalmology, Kyushu University, Japan. Then he moved to the Doheny Eye Institute as a visiting faculty, University of Southern California, USA, in 1992-1995. He is the vice president of Kagoshima University, Japan and the president of Japan Retina Vitreous Society (2020-). Internationally, he is the board member of ICO, member of AOI, Club Jules Gonin and Faculty of ARVO. He received many awards from scientific societies including, Pfizer Ophthalmic Awards, Gold Medal of ARVO Fellow and others.

His research and clinical interests involve diabetic retinopathy, retinal surgery, ocular angiogenesis. He developed triamcinolone-assisted vitrectomy and Japan-Retinal Detachment Registry. He published more than 460 peer reviewed papers with h- index 55 as of June 2024. He developed AI based OCT-algorhism which is installed with several commercial machines. He is now a Coeditor-in-Chief of Graefes Archives of Ophthalmology from 2019.
