Grants
Supporting Retinal Research
We are a non-profit organisation that reinvests all funds into educational benefits for our members and into retina research to benefit ophthalmology patients worldwide. Our annual Retinal Medicine Research Funding Call is one way we achieve this.
The Retinal Medicine Clinical Research Award, which awards grants of up to €300,000 to support and encourage independent clinical research in the field of retinal medicine.
We focus our support on research that other funding bodies, including the pharmaceutical and medicinal product industry, do not typically support. Since this grant programme was established in 2018, we have received a high number of high-quality submissions and progressed with four.
We also on occasion support larger scale research programmes, such as the ongoing EURETINA Submacular Hemorrhage Trial, in partnership with Fight for Sight. Research on this scale is selected by the Board based on predefined research topics and projects, most often programmes that present an opportunity for fast achievement and which meet pressing needs.
Our annual Funding Calls are open to all clinicians and researchers who hold EURETINA membership. All eligible submissions are evaluated by the Grant Assessment Panel, from which short-listed entries will be invited to submit a full proposal. Grants are made on a fully competitive and peer reviewed basis.
